A delegation from Nadur Primary School consisting of the headmistress, Ms Evelyn Galea, the complementary teacher Mrs Mary Gurr, and a kindergarten assistant, Mrs Ines Buttigieg recently attended a three-day international congress on "Quality in Early Childhood and Primary Education".

The congress, held in Istanbul from November 26 to 28, was hosted by Ms Leman Cetin who runs three International Small Hands Academies. Various important papers were presented by international educators, education ministers, university professors and mayors.

The congress enabled participants to discuss and share ideas and to attend practical sessions. The Nadur team said that as a follow-up, they would like to implement and consolidate more ideas such as "theme teaching", promoting more research by students and gradually move from teacher-directed to more student-centred classes.

"As educators we have to realise that play, hands-on activities, multi-sensory learning, research and presentations are today an essential part of the learning process for each of the students in our care," they said.
