Six adult leaders from the Qrendi and San Gwann scout groups will be going to Libya to attend first Pan Arab Assembly for Cultural Exchanges.
The assembly will mark the 50th anniversary of the introduction of scouting in Libya.
The invitation for the Maltese scouts, which was the second of its kind, was extended to the Scout Association following the close relationships and ties that have been established through a previous Maltese participation in a Discovery Safari held in the spiritual mountains of Gebal Ahdar (Green Mountains) at Al Baijda and a visit to Malta by the Libya Scout International Commissioner Abdulhafid Abudher.
The assembly, in Ghadames, aims to bring scouts from various associations from the Arab and Mediterranean regions. The foreign guests will be introduced to local cultures and history, local traditions, horsemanship, folklore dance, song and music. The event will also includes an invitation to an Arabic wedding.
The main emphasis of the assembly, apart from serving as an introduction to the Arabic world, is to promote world peace. Several workshops on cultural dialogue and the cultivation of peace will be addressed by the country's leading University of Al-Fateh lecturer Ali el-Hawat.
From Tripoli, the Maltese scout delegation will travel overland to Tunisia and later northward to Bizerte, visiting the Tunisian Hassen Ennouri Scout Group.
