Each year from 15 to 20 babies are born requiring methadone to be weaned off their addiction, according to Anna Maria Vella from the Substance Misuse Out-Patient Unit.

The painful recovery the babies go through and a mother's first-hand account on her child's hope to live a normal life is just one of the many stories tackled in the second issue of the monthly magazine Pink, which is out with The Times tomorrow.

Published by Allied Newspapers and printed by Progress Press, Pink is a Mediamaker production, targeted at women.

Pink's key word for December is spirit. Check out the party spirit in the ShowStopper fashion pages. Keep up the spirit with the help of our PinkShrink who explains the mystery of seasonal affective disorder.

Stay in high spirit without overdoing it on the alcohol in our InThePink section which outlines the negative impact of binge-drinking and follow Pink's tips to counteract alcohol's fattening effects.

Pink tried to steer away from heartrending sob stories but felt it was still important to know that for some women in throes of dead-end gruelling separation cases Christmas only highlights a tragic existence; and that nurses in the hospital's Intensive Therapy Unit face a daily challenge that should serve to shake us all up and out of our material world.

Pink also focuses on fitness and beauty, as well as on a number of regulars, including a recipe on what to do with Christmas leftovers in TableTalk, a light-hearted vox pop in MouthPiece and a gripping, humorous column in GirlTalk.

This month Pink offers you the chance to take a personality test in RelationTips, which should help you understand why you act in a certain way and in turn be more empathetic to others' emotions.

Pink is designed by Helen Cassar Torreggiani and Joseph Schembri and produced by a strong and creative team at Mediamaker.
