A 58-year-old Marsa man has been given a two-year jail term suspended for four years after he admitted to defrauding a man of Lm1,000.

Lawrence Cilia pleaded guilty to defrauding Pierre Piott.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera noted that Cilia's criminal record reflected he had not learnt from past cases and for this reason a suspended jail term would help ensure he remained on the right track.

Police Inspector Bernard Zarb prosecuted.
