Bakers' representatives yesterday met Competitiveness Minister Censu Galea and presented him with a study of the financial implications of the rise in the kerosene price on some bakers.

The two sides agreed to meet again tomorrow.

Members of the bakers' cooperative met recently to decide on a course of action following the increase in the price of kerosene.

Bakers whose ovens are fuelled by kerosene estimate that they would have to pay close to Lm200 extra a week in fuel costs. A small bakery was likely to see its fuel bill rise by about Lm4,000 a year.

Bakers are claiming they would have to increase the price of bread by 1c3 per loaf to keep in line with the price rises.
