Dr Keith Sciberras, lecturer in History of Art at the University of Malta, has been invited by the Soprintendenza per I Poli Museali di Napoli to deliver two lectures in Naples in conjunction with the exhibition Caravaggio: L'Ultimo Tempo 1606-1610, currently on show at the Capodimonte Museum.
The first lecture, entitled "Caravaggio, the Lorraines, and the artist's companion for the Knighthood of Magistral Obedience" will be on Friday at the Capodimonte Museum.
The second lecture, entitled Caravaggio in bianco e nero, will be on Monday, December 20, at the Università Suor Orsola Benincasa. This university is currently running a course called Intorno a Caravaggio, Contesti, idee, problemi di restauro.
Dr Sciberras has been a contributor to this exhibition, writing the contextual essay on Caravaggio's Maltese period for the exhibition catalogue published by Electa.
The exhibition will remain open until January 23; it will open at the National Gallery in London on February 22. For the latter, Dr Sciberras has been invited to deliver the prestigious inaugural evening lecture, entitled "Caravaggio in Malta: Virtuosity Honoured, Chivalry Disgraced" in a series that National Gallery is hosting by leading international scholars in the field.
Dr Sciberras has been appointed A.W. Mellon Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, for his research work on Caravaggio for the current academic year.
