Make a list and work out a budget with a particular focus on how much you are prepared to spend on every individual. Keep the receipts just in case there may be a problem so the respective items bought can be returned. Check thoroughly that they are in working order before paying for them. Check them again at home before wrapping them. Faulty goods should be returned as soon as possible after purchase.

If you are buying clothing items, make sure you know your friend's or relative's size. There is no legal right to a refund or replacement if an item is the wrong size, colour or style, or it's an unwanted present.
