An Air Malta aircraft bound for London Heathrow yesterday morning had to return shortly after leaving the Malta International Airport as it had been hit by birds on take-off.

A statement by the airline said an Air Malta Airbus was involved in a minor incident when the aircraft was hit by birds on take-off.

As a precaution the aircraft returned and landed safely. No passengers or crew were injured, but the pilot decided to land as a safety measure.

Passengers boarded another aircraft which took off some hours later.
