A 31 year old Marsascala man was arraigned in court yesterday on charges of attempting to inflict serious injury on his wife.
Senior Inspector Anthony Cassar charged Joseph Caruana with having, at Marsascala last Sunday, attempted seriously to injure his wife by hurling a gas cylinder at her. He was further charged with having caused over Lm50 damage to his wife's property and with having caused her slight injuries.
Caruana was further charged with attacking and threatening and insulting his wife and with insulting a police officer.
The prosecution has also charged Caruana with driving a car while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and with dangerous driving.
He was further charged with disturbing the public peace and with using obscene and blasphemous language. Caruana was further charged with having, as a public officer, committed a crime he was supposed to prevent.
The court was requested to provide for the safety of the wife and to impose a penalty upon Caruana in the event of default.
