Tax bands
The tax bands on locally manufactured cigarettes as from yesterday started being marked with the letter B instead of the letter A to indicate the change in excise duty rates as announced in the budget, the Customs Department said.
In the case of imported cigarettes, owing to technical reasons, the tax band will for a limited period still show the letter A until stocks in bond have been exhausted.
However, the new rates of excise duty will apply immediately on the cigarettes being released from bond.
