Stop the whingeing!

Much has been written about the eyesore that the opera house ruins have become. There is never a good time to build or rebuild icons. The government on this side of the world was defeated after giving birth to the Sydney Opera House, the tunnel across the harbour bridge and the Darling Harbour project. A bold and determined government will go ahead in spite of the detractors.

The City Gate, the bus terminus and what's left of the opera house are a total disgrace to my beloved Malta. I do not live on the island but I visit on a regular basis and it hurts me each time I see such a pathetic entry to one of the most historic cities in the world, my city, my home.

If I may voice my opinion, I think Malta needs a new Parliament house. It must not remain in the President's Palace.

It should be built at the site of the Main Guard with parking underneath of course and the beautification of the square in front. The site of the opera house should become part of a magnificent piazza to endow a grand and elegant entrance as part of the City Gate project.

The whole project can be financed through special lotteries and private investments. That is how the Sydney Opera House was built.
