With reference to Ms Jacqueline Calleja's letter (The Sunday Times, November 7) it is interesting to note that the endeavours of the LGBT Catholic Group have been appreciated by one of your readers. However, a couple of clarifications need to be made.
The group is an initiative of the Malta Gay Rights Movement and as such takes a gay-affirmative approach. The group's aim is not to instruct the participants on how they should be living their lives, but to facilitate the integration of their Catholic spirituality with their homosexual identity.
Therefore, the group is a safe space where members can explore this integration and grow in their relationship with God. This is done through sharing, reflection, prayer and meditation on the Bible and spiritual literature.
We are sure that anyone can understand how complex such a process is since we are dealing with issues that form the basis of the human identity. However, so far the group has met regularly and established a strong and positive bond. Anyone who is interested can ask for more information by calling 9988-6217.
