Over 1,000 school children yesterday celebrated World Children's Day which will be marked today.

The main aim the event held at St Paul's Missionary College, in Rabat was to promote the rights of children.

The children present had the opportunity to spend some hours free from the pressures associated with childhood. The main feature of the event was a one-and-a-half-hour concert by children of various ages celebrating childhood through dance, singing and drama. The concert was coordinated by Agenzija Appogg.

The children were invited to take part in a half hour Caqlaq ghal Sahhtek activity organised by the Health Promotion Department and the Malta Sport Council.

At the end of the event, Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina and Commissioner for Children Sonia Camilleri, together with other coordinators, distributed Chipita 7 Days croissants, which sponsored the event, to the children.

The event was organised by the Office of the Children's Commissioner, Agenzija Appogg, the Health Promotion Department, the Malta Sport Council, Sedqa, the Scouts Association and the Malta Girl Guides.
