Not guilty of treason

Another year has passed and once again I feel it my duty to pay tribute to a real national hero, Carmelo Borg Pisani.

For 62 years Borg Pisani's body has been left to lay with criminals and murderers, first at the Corradino Prison graveyard and then, later on, in a rather mysterious move, to the Addolorata Cemetery's Osseria Comune - a common grave.

His death sentence was an unlawful move by the pro-British dominated court. The circumstances that led to his capture and the aftermath should have granted him the status of prisoner of war as per the Geneva Convention. In turn the Imperialist rulers were determined to send this young nationalist to the gallows.

History must be set right. A Maltese tribunal must review the case and pass a justified verdict. Carmelo Borg Pisani was not guilty of treason.

In a society that is losing its values and sense of belonging, the figure of Carmelo Borg Pisani should be seen in a new light and set as an example for all.
