Looking from behind the mask

Euralia Teatro and Teatrovivo, under the supervision of Luca Cairati, Laetitia Favart and Cristiano Roccamo, will be holding a seminar and a two-day workshop on the Commedia del'Arte at St James Cavalier, in Valletta this weekend.

The workshop will not only examine the various traditions and characteristics of the Commedia del'Arte stock characters but will also give participants the chance to see the world from behind the mask.

Using specially made leather masks, actors will be guided by some of Italy's leading experts in the field.

The group visited Malta last year and gave two performances at the University Theatre.

The group has been travelling around Europe exploring the European dimensions of a very Italian phenomenon.

This weekend's seminar is one of three taking place in Italy, Malta and Hungary and explores the various dimensions of this very special theatrical art form.

The seminar will be held on Friday at 7.30 p.m.

Admission is free. The fee for the workshops being held on Saturday and Sunday is Lm15.
