Rizzo, Balzan top rankings

Johanna Rizzo and Ivan Balzan are the players to chase after the first Malta Squash ranking tournament was played last weekend at the Cynergi Fitness Centre.

In all, 36 players took part and after 80 matches Rizzo came out tops in the women's category with Balzan dominating the men's event.

A qualifying round was required as a good number of competitors in the entry field were playing competitive squash for the first time.

Some of the players who advanced to the knockout stages had to play five matches to stay in contention.

Rizzo and Balzan are now leading the provisional Malta Squash rankings.

The next tournament in the series will be played at the Malta Union Club on December 4.
