Accused's relatives attack police

Carmela Spiteri, 38, was yesterday charged in court with dealing in cocaine and heroin.

Inspector Nadia Lanzon also charged Spiteri with being a relapser.

The accused, who has no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her but was denied bail by Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, who ordered that she be remanded in custody.

While Spiteri was being escorted out of the courtroom, five relatives of the accused attacked the police.

The police were slightly injured in the incident. The family members were arrested and charged yesterday evening.
