The last time we heard of Michael Xuereb was not so long ago when he had an art exhibition entitled With No Intention, throughout August.

Art developing has always been an integral part of Xuereb's life, and a recent interest of his is photography.

"For someone that is not (active in) these two areas, they seem to be two different worlds," Xuereb said. "But someone, like me, who practises photography and paintings knows there is a huge similarity between the two.

"Fundamental theories, such as balance, composition, expression and colour, apply in the same way in paintings and photography. No doubt there is a difference: with one you are creating with a loaded paintbrush from an empty canvas; with the other you are working with a camera, creating illusions of something already there.

"Because all of this I can't find myself pinpointing which is better. What I'm sure about is that I feel at one with both mediums."

This exhibition showcases 10 photos taken between 2002 and 2003 at Kenuna Tower as part of Nadur Council Day celebrations.

Xuereb chose to exhibit local photography to go along with the theme of the entire exhibition being developed locally, together with a local curator, Fr Charles Vella.

Last February 2004, Xuereb was chosen through the KNZ (Kunsill Nazzjonali Zghazagh) to represent Malta for the Cultural Youths division, at the May 1 EU enlargement celebrations in Dublin, where he was guest of honour, together with the 24 other youths and presidents/heads of state of the 25 EU states.

Together with the 10 photos, also to be exhibited is Xuereb's winning photograph at the 1st International Photography Contest Cantabria+10, organised by the European Office at the government of Cantabria, a member of Cantabria@Europa. Entitled, it was placed first in the Maltese category.

Xuereb's exhibition is open every day till Sunday from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m.

Xuereb is currently planning a large-scale exhibition at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta for November 2005. He can be contacted at mikexuereb@yahoo.com.
