A Senglea man was yesterday charged with assaulting officers at the Zejtun police station.

Raymond Gatt, 37, pleaded not guilty to driving dangerously and under the influence of alcohol, damaging Mary Rose Bondin's car, assaulting officers at the police station, disobeying the police and relapsing.

Dr Franco Debono, for Gatt, told Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima his client was not a regular drinker and recognised that he had made a mistake when he drank beer while on medication.

The magistrate granted Gatt bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Joseph Agius prosecuted.
