A number of people were slightly injured and one person briefly trapped when a crane toppled over onto the British Navy aircraft carrier HMS Invincible at docks in southern England yesterday, the Ministry of Defence said.

A spokesman said the crane was lifting a vehicle on to the carrier at Portsmouth Naval Base when it fell just after 10 a.m.

The crane driver was trapped and several people sustained minor injuries such as cuts and bruises.

"The crane driver is now free and there were no serious injuries," the spokesman said.
