The Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) believe that the decision to suspend the helicopter service between Malta and Gozo will have an adverse effect on tourism in Gozo.
The fact that the service has been stopped during this time of the year will make the problem of accessibility to the island worse and the authorities had surely been aware that the helicopter service had to stop at the end of October due to the standards required by the EU.
The chamber and the GTA believe that discussions for an alternative service provider should have begun well in advance so that the continuity of the air service would have been guaranteed and hoped that the current discussions on the service provider will be concluded in the shortest time possible for the benefit of the Gozitan economy.
They also urge the government to and not to shirk its responsibility by providing a fixed wing air service which is more economical and more environment-friendly.
