Maltapost Corporate Services general manager Joe Gafà, has been re-elected to the new PostEurop Management Board of the Association of European Public Postal Operators. The management board was elected during the pre-UPU Plenary Assembly meeting in Bucharest in September, and will take office on January 1 for a three-year period.

The plenary meeting also provided a platform for discussing and approving PostEurop positions ahead of the 23rd Universal Postal Union Congress.

PostEurop chairman Jack Dempsey said that in a postal market both increasingly liberalised and global in nature, it was vital that posts and regulators worked well together for the benefit of their customers, and CERP and PostEurop had been doing just that.

To assist its members in meeting the challenges of the changing market, PostEurop has been anticipating its busiest year yet, and would work to facilitate the implementation of the new regulations which were agreed upon during the Bucharest UPU Congress.

PostEurop will continue to maintain its close contacts with customer groups through customer fora, and with its social partners through its social dialogue activities. As a reflection of the increasing awareness of the posts' role in the environment, PostEurop would also participate actively in the NEPH Project, which is developing environment-friendly postal vehicles.

The other members of the new PostEurop Management Board are Jom Allardt of Finland, Thomas Baldry of Germany, Murray Buchanan of the UK, Pascal Clivaz of Switzerland, Francesca Coratella of Italy, Bernard Damiens of Belgium, Philip Hlavacek of France, Lev Razovski of Russia, Teresa Serra of Portugal, and Jan Sertons of The Netherlands.
