'Buy a brick' scheme

It appears that many people would like to see an open space, by way of a garden, on the site of the opera house, incorporating Freedom Square. I agree that this would be a beautiful, fume free, entrance to Valletta. We have had enough of construction for the sake of it.

I seem to recall that in Australia, around 1969, the Sydney Opera House was partially funded by public contributions through a "buy a brick" campaign. Although I no longer have the certificate, I believe that I "own" a brick of that prestigious building, for which I paid $2.

Perhaps to offset some of the costs, a similar scheme could be launched here, with a certificate being issued to those who contribute and the offer being open to locals and tourists alike. The money collected would, at least, pay for the plants and garden furniture.
