A police constable has been fined Lm100 for causing Lm5 damage to property belonging to Labour MP Joe Mizzi last year.
Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona found Mark Anthony Buttigieg, 30, of Kalkara, guilty of causing the damage to the back door of Mizzi's house, threatening Mizzi's family, breaching the peace and committing a crime he was duty-bound to prevent in Kalkara on April 16, 2003.
The magistrate noted that the evidence clearly showed that Buttigieg had allowed his emotions take over reason when he committed the crimes.
However, the magistrate felt that a jail term was not appropriate in the circumstances and recommended that Buttigieg does not lose his job.
Police Superintendent Lawrence Cutajar and Inspector Alfred Mallia prosecuted.
Dr Joseph Giglio and Dr Richard Sladden appeared for the defendant.
