The international congress for priests, which was attended by over 1,000 priests from 80 countries, came to an end last Friday week in Gozo.
Bishop Nikol Cauchi, greeted the participants at Xewkija parish church where he said that their presence was a clear indication of unity within the Church and fraternity in priesthood and it could help one to understand the charisma of priests and the duty to live a more authentic life. He said such an occasion has also offered them the opportunity to pray together for the Pope who was also celebrating the 26th anniversary of his pontificate.
Bishop Nikol explained that the congress offered various points of reflection and prayer, especially in a time when there was the need for more priests dedicated without reservation to their apostolate.
The Bishop concluded his address by giving information on the Xewkija parish church and hoped the congress would be a memorable occasion which would inspire others to listen to the call of the priesthood.
In the evening, concelebrated Mass was led by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, at Ta' Pinu Sanctuary with the participation of all the priests who took part in the congress.
Among the congregation was Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, ministers and MPs from both sides of the House.
