San Michel Fruit Waves is the official sponsor of the 15th Charity Fun Run organised by St Theresa Junior Lyceum in Mriehel. This year the Charity Fun Run will be held on November 17.
Currently, over 1,100 students are dedicating their free time to collect funds for this year's two-kilometre fun run. The donations collected will go to Caritas (Malta), the Maltese Diabetes Association and the Mriehel Girls' School Benevolent Fund. Caritas, apart from other commendable work, concentrates a significant part of its efforts on rehabilitation from drug abuse and on drug prevention.
"Through this charity school activity our students learn to be aware of the people in need and how to help them by reaching our in the community," said Victor Camilleri, a teacher at Mriehel junior lyceum and organiser of the fun run. Last year, the girls at St Theresa Junior Lyceum collected Lm5,000 and they are hoping to exceed this sum next month.
The San Michel Fruit Waves Fun Run will start at 12.30 p.m. from the St Theresa JL and pass San Anton Gardens before returning to the school. Winners will be given San Michel fruit waves by courtesy of Farsons.
Other sponsors contributing towards the San Michel Fruit Waves Charity Fun Run include Vodafone Malta Ltd, HSBC Bank Malta, Gatorade, Kyocera Mita copiers, Nike, Urban Jungle Street Stores, Fiat, Perfect Screen Printers Ltd, Kinder Sorpresa and Tronky, A to Z Electronics, Badger Karting, JB Group, Exor Group, Wing Tsun Martial Arts, Bay Street Hotel Tourist Complex and Maltarama Ltd Sliema.
Mr Camilleri, assisted by other teachers from St Theresa and members of the Pembroke Athleta Kyocera Mita copiers (Athletic Section), will be co-ordinating the fun run. Other schools are invited to participate both in the fun run and other activities including exhibitions, drama, art, Maltese prose and a gymnastics display.
Students will also have talks from Caritas and the Maltese Diabetes Association to create an awareness of the work carried out on voluntary basis in the community.
The public may also make donations directly at any HSBC branch in the Charity Fun Run Fund account number: 016-079493-001. Vodafone and Go Mobile subscribers may also donate money by sending a blank SMS on the following numbers: 5061-7356, 5061-8061 or 5061-8921 for a donation of Lm1, Lm2 or Lm3 respectively. They have a chance to win a weekend break for two at Bay Street Hotel Tourist Complex.
