A new constitution for Europe

The number of members of the European Parliament

Is there a limit to how many members should be elected in the European Parliament?

Yes. The new EU constitution sets the limit to 750. All members of the European Parliament are elected by universal suffrage. The constitution also states that the minimum number of MEPs for any member state should be not less than six. In addition, no member state shall be allocated more than 99 seats.
