The government has so far failed to publish the report of the inquiry into the workings of the Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools, Labour Party leader Alfred Sant and the party's spokesman for education Carmelo Abela said yesterday.
They were replying to Education Minister Louis Galea who in turn had been reacting to comments on the reorganisation of state schools made by Dr Sant in Rabat on Sunday.
Dr Sant and Mr Abela pointed out that the minister said that schools would not fall under a foundation but under an authority. The difference was simply in the name, they insisted.
They said schemes, foundations and authorities had left disastrous results; one only had to mention the Auxiliary Workers Scheme and the Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools which, they charged, had served as a screen to favour certain people.
The people were fully aware how authorities such as those for transport, communications and the ports had so far served to increase costs without bringing any significant improvement in the quality of the service offered, Dr Sant and Mr Abela said. The same could be said for the Foundation for Medical Services and others.
They said the people should be told the truth about how much of the national curriculum had been implemented so far.
