A motorist was yesterday cleared of seriously injuring a cyclist during a traffic accident after a magistrate ruled that the cyclist had failed to keep a proper lookout when moving from the inner to the outer lane.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera cleared Wayne Farrugia, 24, of injuring Stephen Camilleri and driving dangerously and recklessly in Pietà on October 3, 2002.
The magistrate heard how the accident occurred when Camilleri, riding a bicycle, moved from the inner lane to the outer lane. Farrugia, who was driving on the outer lane slammed the brakes but did not manage to avoid Camilleri.
Police Inspector Stephen Micallef prosecuted.
