Maltapost participated for the first time in Post-Expo 2004 - the world's leading exhibition specifically dedicated to the global postal, courier and mailing industries.

Post-Expo 2004 moved to Bucharest for the first time to run in parallel with the 23rd Universal Postal Union Congress.

The event brought together postal operators and technology suppliers from all over the world. More than 150 companies participated in the Expo, demonstrating and showcasing technologies and services, including track-and-trace technology, locker and mailbox systems and logistics solutions.

The primary purpose of Maltapost's participation in the event was the international promotion of its new point of sale retail system.

The Hermes POS system brought together the technical excellence of Ascent Limited, a leading software supplier in Malta, and Maltapost's vast experience in the postal world, particularly in the retail area.

The system is built on a unique architecture which allows postal organisations to derive competitive benefits from the technology and tap into new revenue streams.

It is a stable, secure and high performance postal application suitable for use on various networking infrastructures including dial-up and broadband.

It runs on a replication engine that allows head office to receive up-to-the-minute data, greatly facilitating the decision-making process for management.

If for some reason, a particular station goes off-line, all transactions can proceed normally, with the data updated at head office immediately connectivity is resumed.

Systems administration costs are pushed to a minimum through the peripheral-independent architecture, while security features at every level provide peace of mind to all users.

As part of its internationalisation and diversification strategy, Maltapost plans to actively market this product internationally.
