Twenty-four immigrants claiming to be from Somalia were yesterday brought to shore in the early morning hours after their boat was sighted four kilometres away from Marsaxlokk at about 3 a.m.

The group - 20 men, three women and a six-month-old baby - were escorted by the Armed Forces of Malta into Haywharf.

The police and AFM were informed that one of the women on board had given birth earlier and needed medical assistance. She was immediately escorted to St Luke's Hospital.

Immigration Section police are investigating.
