BPC International Ltd is one of the winners of the ASTRID Awards Competition for excellence in design communication.

The honours award was awarded to BPC by the Employees Publications - Magazine section for its design work on the HSBC in-house publication, Munita.

The ASTRID Awards, organised annually by MerComm Inc, are judged by more than 50 industry leaders from 23 agencies and corporations around the world.

"The winners, according to their peers, are considered to be the best in the world. Over 400 entries were received worldwide from 17 countries," MerComm Inc president Reni L. Witt said.

"To be selected for an award by some of the world's best design specialists is a real honour, especially considering the hundreds of other fine agencies, corporations and non-profit organisations which were eligible for the awards," he added.

ASTRID Awards are split up into 15 categories, ranging from the design of annual reports to Websites, advertisements and calendars.

"HSBC, with more than 1,600 employees, is one of the largest organisations in Malta and Munita helps everyone at the bank to stay in touch with all the latest developments at HSBC," HSBC head of Marketing and Communications Godfrey Swain said.

"Munita is also a two-way communications tool which allows staff the opportunity to inform their colleagues not only about what is happening at HSBC but also about other events and activities.

"Headed by Josef Camilleri, Munita's editorial team, together with BPC, endeavour to provide HSBC staff with an interesting and attractive edition issue after issue. This ASTRID Award justifiably recognises their efforts."

"Munita magazine, which is published by-monthly, is popular among HSBC staff and their families," BPC managing director David Brockdorff said. "The magazine keeps employees up to date on the bank's latest developments but also includes interesting articles on history, culture and other activities in which staff may have been involved.

"Together with the editorial team at HSBC, we aim to create an interesting and attractive publication. To win an ASTRID Award is a great honour for BPC and will encourage us to continue to pursue excellence."

Other winners at this year's awards include Microsoft, Verizon Wirless, KPMG Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Daimler Chryzler. Apart from Munita, only one other submission in the Employees Publications - Magazine section was judged as of a sufficiently high standard to merit an award.
