I wish to express my gratitude to the Mission Fund of Mosta for the dedication with which they are helping Maltese and Gozitan missionaries all over the world. More specifically I wish to thank them for their generous contribution to projects which our community of Theresian Carmelite Missionaries wishes to carry out in Atotonilco de Tula in Mexico.

Our community, two Spanish Sisters and myself, are doing pastoral work in a parish which comprises ten villages, attended by only one priest. Our work consists mainly in giving spiritual assistance to a population which is mainly Catholic, but increasingly exposed to proselytism by different sects, particularly active in poor areas.

Our activities include teaching Catechism, giving lectures, preparing for the reception of Sacraments, Bible courses, prayer groups, celebrations, visiting the sick. Obviously we cannot ignore material needs either and we collaborate in various activities aimed at raising the social and cultural level of the community, especially women.

We are now concentrating on two projects: an educational centre for the handicapped, both children and adults, and creating a community centre to provide educational and recreational activities for young people. Both projects depend entirely on donations and voluntary work. The donation received from the Mission Fund will certainly be of great help towards the fulfilment of these projects.

Not all are called to dedicate their lives to evangelise far from their own land, but we are all called on to contribute according to our means. One way of doing so is to send used stamps, used telecards and donations to the Mission Fund, 72/2 St Joseph Flats, Triq il-Farinal, Mosta MST 07, tel/fax 2141-3664; e-mail: missionfund@global.net.mt
