Cuschieri and Falzon claim first ranking event

Antoine Cuschieri won the first ranking tournament organised by the Malta Pool Association after beating Top Gun team-mate Clayton Attard 8-4 in the final.

The tournament at Pandora Band Club, Zejtun saw the participation of 102 players.

The two Top Gun players are currently occupying the first two places on the national ranking list. In the semi-finals, Cuschieri had the better of Duncan Bezzina, of Espadon Bar, 7-3 while Attard ousted Mario Brincat of San Gwann Bocci Club with the same scoreline.

In the juniors section, Miguel Falzon, of Top Gun Bar, maintained his winning touch from last year with a 6-3 success over Shaun Agius of St George's in the final. Agius was contesting his first final and his performances hint at a bright future in pool.

In the semi finals, Falzon had to fight back to win 5-4 against Jurgen Attard of St Michael's while Agius accounted for Clint Chircop, also of St Michael's, 5-0.

The second of the four ranking tournaments organised by the association will be played on Monday.
