The General Workers' Union is appealing to the director of the government pharmaceutical services, Anna Debattista, to honour the established protocol regarding medicine deliveries.

The union said that last June Ms Debattista had introduced the protocol but the administration was not following it and had ordered pharmacy technicians to assist with deliveries. However, the union said this was the job of receiving officers, who were of a higher grade than the pharmacy technicians.

This decision, the union said, was disrupting the delivery system. The union said it would resort to industrial action if the protocol was not adhered to by the end of the month.

There was no reaction from the Health Ministry on the union's statement despite being contacted by The Times.
