Zurrieq overcame Sirens' stern challenge with two goals in the second half. This result means that Zurrieq are now joint-leaders with Gudja United as Sirens conceded their first defeat of the season.

Efforts from Mauro Bonnici and Justin Muscat threatened to give Zurrieq an early lead with Sirens' reply creating a scoring opportunity that was missed by Adrian Galea.

Sirens' defender Kevin Grima denied Zurrieq when clearing Matthew Genuis's cross-shot off the line but six minutes into the second half, Zurrieq broke the deadlock through Muscat.

Increasing their efforts to cancel out Zurrieq's lead, Sirens applied more pressure on their opponents but attempts by Reuben Bonett, Leli Grech and David Farrugia failed to produce the desired dividends.

Twelve minutes from the end, Zurrieq had the three points secured when Genuis doubled their advantage.

Zurrieq could have added to their tally but Dino Bonnici's low strike, five minutes from time, came off the upright.

Three minutes later, Nathaniel Falzon laid on a perfect pass for Cutajar to score with a low shot and in the 39th minute, Malcolm Psaila lobbed the ball over Aquilina to give his team a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead.

Luqa maintained the initiative after the interval, forcing Kalkara goalkeeper Aquilina into fine saves to deny Ray Sciberras. On another occasion, they wasted an easy chance through Cutajar. Chris Richard had a shot smacking the upright late in the game.

Kirkop United 0

This was an encouraging performance by Ta' Xbiex which rewarded them with a deserved point from their match against Kirkop United.

Two minutes after the restart, Kirkop's 'keeper Mizzi earned the plaudits with a fine save from Antoine Buhagiar while Ta' Xbiex's Ablett parried a low shot by Ciappara.
