An 18-year-old man was yesterday jailed for 18 months after he admitted to burgling a café in April.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard how the teenager, of San Gwann, whose name is not being published as he was a minor at the time of the commission of the crime, pleaded guilty to stealing hi-fi equipment and cash from Jetros Café in San Gwann on April 21, the possession of a knife and breaching the conditions of a previous release.

The magistrate also put the teenager on probation for three years and recommended that the director of prisons send the teenager to the drug rehabilitation ward at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.
