An old watercourse in Kennedy Grove, a popular recreational area between Salina and Qawra, has emerged once again after tonnes of accumulated seaweed and mud were cleared by the Works Division.

The clogging of the watercourse, which used to look more like an abandoned field, had led to severe flooding in September last year. Tyres, an abandoned car and motorcycles were also removed from the watercourse.

Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit said works on the first half of the watercourse had started in May and the rest would be cleared in the coming weeks.

Mr Zammit, who followed the work, said the foul smell and the insects which populated the area - a hazard to people who went on picnics in Kennedy Grove - were reduced drastically thanks to the works.
