Joseph A. Sacco, of Gwardamangia, writes:

I refer to the statistical data about Kris Laferla, the Sliema Wanderers defender, compiled by Rinus Dahles and published in The Times of October 16.

I would like to point out that Laferla played 65 matches for Malta and not 63 times as stated therein.

It is also worth recalling that Laferla scored the winning goal in Malta's memorable 1-0 away victory against Estonia.

This remains the first and only win achieved by Malta in a World Cup preliminary competition.

Laferla also had the honour of skippering Malta 15 times during his international career and on three other occasions, he took over the captain's armband after the team skipper was substituted during the match.

For the record, the match Estonia vs Malta that took place on May 12, 1993, was controlled by the well-known German referee Markus Merk.
