The Malta Seniors Open is reaching its most exciting stages with the three qualifying rounds now over and the top eight men and women advancing to the final stages this morning.

Defending champion Doris Camilleri is through to the round robin stage for the fourth year in succession, finishing the third round in eighth place.

She came through her twelve round one games in 15th position, and then shot a great 795 total in her four second-round games to push her up to eighth. Then a 743 in round three was just enough for her to retain her placing and give her a passport to round four.

In the men's section hopes for success for Maltese bowlers was high after the twelve round one games, as Leli Baldacchino and Pierre German qualified in the eighth and 25th positions respectively.

Baldacchino did not fare well in his fourth round games and was felled by two low games of 159 and 156. He dropped to 23rd place, thus missing the cut to top 18 for round three.

German, despite going through in 13th place, failed to produce his best scores in round three to make it in the top eight. A low 144 in game two put paid to his chances and his 733 total left him in 16th place.

The qualifiers will now play a single Round Robin in round four which includes additional bonus points for wins, draws and high games. Then, the top four bowlers from each division will go on to the stepladder finals.
