Stephen Spiteri, a 23-year-old driver who lives in St Paul's Bay, was yesterday arraigned in court in front of Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima and charged with the attempted murder of Ronnie Spiteri in St George's Street, Paceville, last Sunday.
He was also charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and of attacking and threatening police officers J. Xuereb and C. De Brincat. Spiteri was further charged with disturbing public order, with using foul language and with challenging members of the police force to fight.
Another charge was that of threatening police constable Ivan Caruana in Ward 2 at St Luke's Hospital.
Police inspectors Mario Tonna and Carmel Abdilla prosecuted. Dr Ian Farrugia appeared for the accused, who was refused bail and remanded in custody.
Following the arraignment a female relative of the accused shouted obscenities at cameramen who were filming Spiteri being accompanied out of the court room.
