I note that Mr Chris Montebello (The Sunday Times, October 10) that he did not contradict any of the statements in my letter of the previous week. Just as well, as six customers would confirm my version.

He proposed a further clarification. This was untrue, as can be confirmed by these six customers. I never asked for the waiter's particulars, as I was not unduly interested in them. My concern was the lack of acceptable behaviour, even for a third world country, if such still exist. He started waving his wallet and subsequently his ID card once I told him that I would report the disgusting incident.
