Bishop Nikol Cauchi will tomorrow officially open and bless Gozo's new home for elderly priests at the Good Shepherd pastoral centre in Victoria.

The home contains 12 bedrooms complete with facilities, as well as various meeting rooms.

A new home was required for priests after the previous one at the bishop's conservatory, which was run by nuns, effectively closed. Mgr Cauchi therefore identified the parish centre, which opened in 1981, as a new residence for priests. A number of priests working in the Tac-Cawla area have lived in the centre since it was opened.

A new floor was built to increase the accommodation for its new purpose. New services such as a lift and ramps were installed to facilitate access for older priests. A new generator was also installed.

A number of benefactors donated money to the home during the construction of the new extension.

There are plans to turn the football pitch behind centre into a recreation area for the residents of the home.
