Fourteen high-school pupils died when their Kosovo-bound holiday bus collided with a car and plunged from a bridge on one of northern Albania's narrow mountain roads yesterday, authorities said.

The driver of the car was also killed in the collision.

The passengers were homeward-bound ethnic Albanian students from a high school in Malisevo, 40 km southwest of Kosovo's capital Pristina, said Kosovo police spokesman Refki Morina.

Public Order Minister Igli Toska, speaking near the crash site, said at least 35 students on the bus were injured and 12 seriously hurt were taken by helicopter to Tirana and Pristina.
