The last day of the Malta Squash Week was held last Sunday at the Marsa Sports Club.
Over 85 training sessions were conducted in one week by national coach Paul Lake.
Although organisers were expecting better dividends from the activity, enough funds were raised to enable the Malta Squash Association to purchase specialised training equipment required for junior players.
The association said the overall response in general was encouraging, with over half of the lessons taken by complete beginners. Some said they intend to carry on with the sport.
This shows that squash is once again on an upward trend.
Proceedings during the week took place at the Malta Union Club, Cynergi, Sunny Coast, Mistra, Living Well and Marsa Sports Club.
The next major target for the association is a portable squash court which could be installed at different venues, particularly schools, where mini-squash becomes easier to introduce.
Mini-squash is not purely squash related, but involves different exercises like running, jumping, balance, movement and co-ordination which all lead to racket and ball skills.
The association said talks with potential sponsors will be held soon as they are looking to have the first portable court ready by next month.
