Beijing University film professor and director Zheng Dongtien has been invited to Malta to speak at the China Film Week at St James Cavalier Cinema put up by the China Cultural Centre.
Prof. Dongtien will be giving two short lectures. The first will be on Contemporary Chinese Films and the Life of the Chinese, immediately after the screening of the film Cell Phone tomorrow at 7 p.m.
His second lecture will consist of an introduction to Chinese Martial Arts Movies, and will be given prior to an evening of three Kung-Fu films on Friday.
The films include Warriors of Heaven and Earth, which was nominated for best Oscar in the Foreign Film Category in 2003 and Hero, described by several film critics as one of the most beautiful films ever, and seen by many as even more important than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The films will be shown at the St James' Cavalier Cinema.
Prof. Dongtien and the director of the China Cultural Centre, Mr Xiaowei Xiang will answer questions at the end of each lecture.
Prof. Dongtien has been at the helm of nine pictures for the big screen and six television dramas. He has been nominated several times for the Golden Rooster Award, the Chinese equivalent of the Oscar.
