Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi paid a courtesy call on Mgr Giovanni Martinelli, OFM, Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli, at the church of St Francis of Assisi in Dahra, Tripoli during his visit to Libya last week.

Dr Gonzi, who was accompanied by Justice Minister Tonio Borg and Malta's Ambassador in Tripoli, Richard Vella Laurenti, also met Bishop Mgr Sylvester Magro, OFM, Apostolic Vicar of Benghazi.

Another meeting Dr Gonzi had was with the Maltese nuns from the Congregation of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart who assist in the running of Dar El Hadana for orphan children.

Present were Fr Daniel Farrugia, a diocesan priest who has been doing pastoral work in Libya for the last seven years, and Fr John Muscat, OFM.

Mgr Martinelli gave a brief account to the Prime Minister of the pastoral work carried out at the church and expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Church in Malta for providing priests and nuns to work with the Catholic community in Libya.
