It was good to learn (September 15) that announcements at the Malta International Airport for daily and Sunday Masses have been resumed. This shows that good sense prevailed and MIA had enough spine to retreat a wrong decision previously taken; a decision which irritated airport workers and the public.
We were told that the interruption of the announcements was the result of complaints by foreign travellers who called such announcements "fundamentalist and extremist".
To anyone who might have, even for an instant, agreed with the cessation of the announcements, I suggest that they read the article (September 16) on the Polish priest Fr Slawomir Kaweck, who is secretary general of the European Chaplaincies in Civil Airports. Fr Slawomir was here in Malta for a few days to look into the possibility of bringing over young Polish people to learn English.
It was also good to learn that the Curia voiced its opinion.
