Lower Mepa caseload

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority determined 1,685 applications in August and September.

In August the authority received 657 new applications and the net pending caseload at the end of the month stood at 3,914, Mepa said.

In September, Mepa determined 868 applications and received 377 new ones. At the end of September, the net pending caseload was 3,342.

In August, the authority processed 61 notifications of development which do not require a formal application. A total of 57 notifications of development were processed last month.

In August, 94 stop and enforcement notices were issued, 74 in Malta and 20 in Gozo. In the same month 41 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit. Another 15 cases were resolved since the owners in question decided to remove illegal developments following enforcement by Mepa.

In the same month two cases were withdrawn by Mepa while another two cases were closed following payment due for direct actions carried out over the past years.

A direct action was carried out in August against illegal rooms and dumping on garigue without the necessary permit.

During September 81 stop and enforcement notices were issued, 57 in Malta and 24 in Gozo. In the same month, 74 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit. Another 22 cases were resolved by the issue of a sanctionable permit.

In September seven enforcement cases were withdrawn by Mepa and another case was closed following the payment due for a direct action carried out over the past years.
