Do you want to know what was going on around the world the day you were born - a day you obviously can't remember. Allied Newspapers Ltd are now offering a unique service that is already proving to be popular among the public.
If you were born between 1935 and today you are only a phone call and Lm5 (plus VAT) away from ordering an actual-size black and white reproduction print of the cover of The Times or The Sunday Times of the day you were born or any other significant day you might request.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Phelam Cavlan from the Archiving Department, said that although only launched last week, the response so far has been above all expectations with many phoning in to order a print as a gift.
The process involves retrieving the particular page from the microfilm archive and scanning it. Since most of the issues requested are old, some touching up and cleaning is done on the page to offer a more presentable product. This process could take from a day to three days and customers will be informed when to collect their print.
This is another service being offered by the Archiving Department of Allied Newspapers Ltd., over and above an unprecedented, fully functional archive service already in operation for months now.
